Exciting news.

I realize I have not posted on here for ages.   That doesn't mean I have not been doing anything, just no time to post.   My latest and most joyous news is that my husband and I are going to have another baby due at the end of summer.    We already have 3 boys so when I went to have my sonogram I was hoping for a girl.   I realize a baby is a baby no matter what and they are all precious miracles but I think every mom has the right to want something.  So we went to get my sonogram I drank a gallon or 2 of water.  I had to pee about 4 times before I had the sonogram and even when I went in she could tell I was uncomfortable and let me use the restroom one last time.   She asked if we wanted to know the sex and we both said yes.   Well it didn't take her long before she discovered we were having another boy.  Yes that is right  I will be the mother of 4 boys.  My husband and I joke that one more and we could have a basketball team.   We came home and began calling friends and family.  For the most part I was strong and kept a brave face but  after so many calls I had to stop and cried a little.  Simply because we had decided this was our last one and there was no chance of me having a girl, unless of course God has other plans in 10 years when we aren't planning or expecting it.   I have now come to accept the fact I'm having a boy and I will welcome him with loving arms just like I have my other boys.   When we told the older boys since my 2 year old doesn't quite get what is going on, they both said "Really!!? "Really" like we were playing a joke on them and I simply replied really.  I think they wanted a girl for me too and couldn't believe it.   My 2 year old will be starting a kids day in program in the fall he is just shy by 9 days to make it to preschool but that's okay.   He will only go one day a week and it is a Christian based program which I think is important.    Tomorrow starts an important day of his life.  Potty training.   I tried to tell my husband that since we have 3 boys so far with 1 on the way and I've already potty trained the first 2 it would only be fair for him to potty training the last 2.  He laughed like I was joking.  Oh well I tried.  We will do it but I really do not enjoy the never-ending potty training process.  But like I always say that if he is still not potty trained by college he will have to do his own laundry.

full speed ahead

Well this train certainly doesn't stop and last week was proof of that, in fact I think it was in full speed.   So last Monday the boys had the day off so I got nothing done.   On Tuesday my friend/neighbor came over to help me make cookies for the church bake sale at the upcoming fall festival.  We made triple chip cookies, I had received an e-mail from  bakerella with a recipe for these cookies and they looked so yummy I had to make them for the bake sale.  Plus it didn't hurt when I went to transfer them from the parchment paper to the cooling racks some of them fell, oops! so I had to eat those of course and yes they were indeed yummy.   We also made Monster cookies and lastly some Congo bars which ever since I had them in grade school  I had always loved these cookies but I couldn't remember what they were called and I was finally able to find it again.     Tuesday night my middle son had a flag football game and on Wednesday we had WOW at church.  Thursday afternoon I dropped off the cookies for the bake sale and told the ladies I would be back in the morning.    Friday I made a casserole meal for the church to help feed the homeless.   Friday night my husband helped run the food booth for the Goddard Fall Festival. He did the same thing all day Saturday, taking only a brief break to take my oldest son to his double header flag football game.   Friday night I made PB&J french toast and we watched Matilda.  Saturday morning we woke up and I made hotcakes I found a recipe that is like McDonald's hotcakes so we ate those.  Then we headed to downtown Goddard, a whole 4 minutes from where we live.  Parked in the church parking lot and walked down to main street to watch the parade.     My son's school won the best float of the parade so that was exciting then we just walked around and headed to where my husband was working.   I ordered a bratwurst and 2 hot dogs,  then we got a small snow cone which was pretty big for small and headed back to the church .  The church was filled with booths with people selling stuff they personally make to things like pampered chef and Avon.   We then got in the van and quickly went home.    I had my oldest change into his uniform then we had to skidaddle to the YMCA where he was having pictures taking, when that was over we quickly went home.   I still had to make brownies for his snack cause oh yeah did I forget to mention I had signed up for snacks on Saturday.   Well I wasn't able to have the brownies done in time, darn oven and not being able to slow down time.   My husband got the boys and took them to the game,  I later called him and said I would bring the brownies up later.    Thankfully the brownies weren't needed until the end of the second game since he had a double header.   I was able to finish them and drive them over and watch my son's second game.     The kids and coaches were all excited about the brownies which of course made me feel good.   Plus my son had an awesome game like he usually does.    He got another safety, 2 interceptions and 80% of the time when it came to getting the flags he was usually the one to do it.    Saturday night my husband had to go back to the festival because there was a concert and they wanted to sell brats to make more money for the church.    Let me tell you that concert was loud we live on the other side of the highway from where the concert was held.   We could hear it clear as day in our house with no windows open, so that can just tell you how loud it was if you were actually at the concert.   Thankfully he was able to come home at 8:30pm and we had quiet evening.  Sunday came and we went to church then came home and watched the chiefs vs vikings game.   I'm a chiefs fan, having grown up near Kansas City and my husband is a vikings fan being from Minnesota.   Actually when we first met and he came to see me they vikings played at the chiefs-they lost then too and that was 12 years ago.   I told my husband that even though his team lost I would always love him and root for his purple vikings even if they are the worst team now.   I think they have a good team -minus McNab he just needs to quit and not be like another QB the vikings had that refused to retire and they need a better coaching system. Sunday night we watched the amazing race and decided to make it easy and get value meals from McDonald's.    Lets hope this week the train slows way down so we can enjoy the scenery.

Birthday party

Saturday my youngest son David turned 2.  it is hard to believe he isn't a baby anymore, although my children will always be my babies even when they are with their own families.   I decided this year I was going to do a circus theme,  I researched several places online until I found something that really looked great.     The website that I drew my inspiration from came from Hello my Sweet,  I loved the look of a vintage circus.  They also have an etsy shop where you can purchase invitations, and other birthday decorations for a very reasonable price, especially if you are like me and have no clue how to design stuff like this.   I also contacted the lady who made his birthday cake last year and sent him a picture of a cake and asked if she could duplicate it and she said she could and her prices can't be beat.   She lives in Wichita and her website is celestial cakes her name is Deana and she is an awesome cake decorator.    I even went to Bed Bath and Beyond to purchase a cotton candy maker with my 20% off coupon,  it is a lot cheaper then renting one and with 3 boys I know I will be using it for birthday parties or other fun events.    So here are some pictures from the junk food filled, sugar crazed circus we had oh and even better we went to the Kansas State fair on Monday for even more fair/junk food.     I just love birthday parties especially when children are small and aren't influenced by video games or TV programs your imagination can carry you anywhere with the endless possibilities for birthday themes.  It always makes me a little sad when they are old enough to decide for themselves.   I prefer not having to go to party city and pick out stuff that comes in 8 packs.   This party did give me some difficulties though well I tried making caramel apples the first night it went past the firm ball stage and wouldn't stick to the apples, the next day I tried using sweet condensed milk and it scorched the bottom of my pan, I finally sent my husband to the store to buy the Kraft caramels (I felt like a failure)  but I wanted the apples so he went and then I had him make the sticky apples since I was obviously cursed.     I also tried making cake pops and that too gave me much difficulty so I finally gave up, I will try them again sometime but probably not the day before a birthday.
David's cake, the bottom layer was chocolate fudge with raspberry filling
the top layer was vanilla cake with lemon cream filling.

Spring time

Last Saturday we planted our new trees and plants we received from the Arbor day farms.
They are still small but if they make it they will be very beautiful.    There is a southern magnolia tree, a fragrant lilac bush and two hydrangea bushes.   Plus an Azalea,  I also picked up another one from Lowes.   At Church last night I was talking to another lady and she told me there is someone who might give us a forsythia bush if we wanted one.    The tulips I planted last fall are coming up and blooming so far I have two yellow ones,  I think its so exciting because you don't know what color will appear at least if you get a mixed bag.    The past couple days I have made no bake bars and oatmeal chocolate chip cookies for the Oak Street Carnival this Saturday for the sweet shop.     Last week if you watch Regis and Kelly you might have seen our town of Goddard, KS that is where run across America runner was last week.  We are a pretty small town so its pretty exciting to get such national attention.
In other good news today my oldest son Carl came home from taking 3 days of Math State assessment testing.  He got 100% so as are agreement his Dad and him went and bought him roller blades.   Which is much better then an ipod touch that he has wanted because all of his friends have them.  Personally I don't believe kids should be having items that are meant for adults.    He has plenty of other things like the Wii and Nintendo DS so its not like he is deprived of items.      I am very proud of him for doing so well.   Tomorrow his class is getting to go to the park as a special treat and to stop off at a little bakery for a treat.

Until next time:
Rejoice and be exceedingly gad for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.  Mathew 5:12

can anybody tell me what kind of tree this is?

New Carpet

Yesterday we finally got our new carpet installed that we bought from Lowe's.   For the saga of that story please see previous post sticker price shock.   We are very pleased with our new carpet,  it feels so nice underneath our bare feet.  Of course the downside is that it makes the rest of our house's carpet look that much worse.    Unfortunately  carpet is too expensive to replace it all at once.

40 days

This past week I went to my first Ash Wednesday service.   At church I learned what it was about and what you are asked to do for your Lord in this case giving something up for 40 days.   I thought and thought about what I could give up.   TV-no I have too many shows that I watch,  facebook no I play games and other people depend on me (ok I know that sounds lame but oh well)  finally I decided to give up swearing,  I know to some people that might not seem like much but I can tend to swear like a sailor if the mood hits me right.   So I vowed to God to not swear for 40 days.    I had been doing pretty good only a two slips with minor swear words and under my breath.  But today this afternoon I lost it,  I was taking a nap with the baby and my two older boys were out in the living room playing Kirby's epic yarn.   They started fighting over the game about doing something and my older son insist on talking as loudly as he possibly can and ends up waking up myself and the baby.  I go out to the living room to see what the deal is and since they can't reach an agreement I flip out on them and start yelling and swearing  I catch myself after a minute and left the room,   I told my husband what had happened and he came out and told them they were finished with video games for the day.   I know I should have remained calm and told them that their time was up since they couldn't come to an agreement but when I went out there to calmly talk to them in the beginning that is when the baby woke up and that sends me into a frenzy whirlwind.   Yes I know I still need to work on this but I'm trying the best as I can.   I am giving this up not just for 40 days that is only the beginning after 40 days I hope to be able to still not swear as often.   Please understand that I know I will have slips here or there and occasionally go off on a tirade I am just trying to not do it as often.
If you went to Ash Wednesday Service this past week then I pray that you have the strength to go for 40 days for whatever you feel you need to give up in your life.     If you think about it Jesus gave up a lot more then anyone can imagine  giving up for all he went through.   So to give up one thing isn't really asking too much of us.
